Management Team

Over the past 15 years, Scotrenewables Tidal Power Limited has built up a highly motivated, experienced and dedicated team to tackle the engineering and commercial challenges of tidal energy. Initially led by Barry Johnston, founder and company director, the company has expanded from a two man team to approximately 25 staff spread between Orkney and Edinburgh offices. The teams capabilities cover core functions of: design engineering (mechanical, structural, electrical, control and systems), hydrodynamics, offshore operations, manufacturing and assembly, environmental and consenting, health & safety and business development.

Management

Andrew Scott - CEO 

Andrew has worked in the marine renewable energy sector for 15 years. Prior to joining Scotrenewables Tidal Power as CEO in September 2015, Andrew had worked with Pelamis Wave Power for over ten years where he was central to commercial, project, industry and fund raising activities with the company. During this time he was responsible for the revenue generating consultancy activities within the business, management of utility client relationships, assisting in the negotiation of generator supply contracts as well as managing major due diligences programmes for the purpose of investment, acquisition and machine supply processes – developing a robust engineering understanding of cost of energy drivers for marine renewables. With an outward facing role Andrew was extensively involved in numerous UK and EU working groups liaising closely with Governments and agencies to address key sector challenges at the same time as managing all aspects of project development activities and securing of key project assets. During his time at Pelamis Wave Power the company was successful in raising over £60m of private investment and securing over £15m of revenues, uniquely including generator sales. Andrew has a background in mechanical engineering which he studied at Strathclyde University before completing a postgraduate in Energy at Heriot-Watt University.

Chris Milne - CFO

Chris joined Scotrenewables as CFO in October 2016. Prior to joining Scotrenewables, Chris was Vice President of an oil and gas services focussed Private Equity fund managed by Simmons and Company International, a US based Investment Bank. Chris previously held a number of senior Finance Leadership positions at FTSE 100 company SSE plc (previously Scottish and Southern Energy plc), including sitting on the Board of its Generation business and Head of Finance for all Generation (operations and major project development), Gas Storage and E&P activities, as well as various key Non-Executive Director roles. Chris played a significant role in the team that built SSE E&P UK Limited, through acquisitions, from its inception in 2011 to a top 10 UK North Sea gas producer in 2014. Chris first moved to the energy company as Group Corporate Finance Manager in 2008, after leaving the KPMG Private Equity M&A team in London where he was a Manager. Chris graduated from the University of Dundee in 2001 with a First Class Honours degree in Business Economics and Marketing with Psychology, is a Chartered Accountant (ICAEW) and holds the CFA UK Level 4 Certificate in Investment Management.

Jonathan Meason - Engineering Manager

Jonathan graduated from Strathclyde University with MEng Mechanical Engineering and joined the company in 2007 as a design engineer, progressing to Engineering Manager in June 2013. He is now responsible for the technical development of the tidal turbine project, including planning, engineering integration and management of the technical team.  He is a graduate of Strathclyde University with a degress in Mechanial Engineering. 

Daniel Wise, Operations Manager

Daniel is a chartered marine professional, with over 15 years experience in a wide range of projects spanning commercial diving, marine renewable energy and the oil industry.    He joined Scotrenewables in 2016 and is responsible for managing the operations associated with the development and testing of the SR2000 technology at EMEC, as well as feeding back into the design of future units.  

Trevor Walls - Electrical Manager

Trevor joined the company in 2007 with previous experience in DP vessel electrical design and construction.  His role involves specification of electrical hardware and software, contractor and personnel management, commissioning of all onboard electrical systems, and has responsibility for all electrical works during testing operations. 

Calum Miller - Hydrodynamics & Moorings Manager  

Calum joined the company in 2009. Since then he has had several roles in the company including Senior Hydrodynamicist, Marine Operations Manager and Offshore Engineering Manager.  Currently Calum manages the Hydrodynamics and Moorings department which includes turbine design, performance validation, foundation design and associated procurement and project management.

Lorna Slater - Engineering Project Manager  

Lorna joined Scotrenewables in 2016 following roles as project & systems manger at Atlantis Resources and lead C&I Engineer at Aquamarine Power.  She is responsible for the SR2-2000 turbine delivery and for quality assurance on the project.  She holds a degree in Electro-Mechanical Engineering. 

Angel Rua Santaclara - Control & Instrumentation Manager  

Angel joined the company is 2009 to assist with the development and implementation of control systems for Scotrenewables first large scale prototypes.  He is now responsible for the C&I systems and communications from design to installation and maintenance throughout testing.  He has a background in PLC programming, automation and robotic systems. 

James Murray - Business Development Manager

James joined the company in 2013.  His responsibilities include liaising with future customers, utility companies, commercial tidal site developers, government departments, consenting authorities, and other stakeholders to identify, develop and secure new market opportunities and promote the successful and sustained growth of the company. He also represents Scotrenewables at conferences, stakeholder meetings and events and is responsible for all marketing and PR activities.  He holds an MSc in Renewable Energy Systems Technology from Loughborough University.
